5 signs of breast cancer you don't know

Nicki experienced breast pain off and on for a year - little did she know it was Grade 3 invasive breast cancer. Most women know to get a breast lump checked out, but awareness of other breast cancer symptoms is extremely low. Changes to the skin or nipple, and unusual breast pain, could all be indicators of cancer. October is Breast Cancer Month and the Foundation will be driving the message home in a multimedia awareness campaign: Get changes, any breast changes checked out.

Here we share the lesser known signs of breast cancer and urge all women to take action if unusual symptoms appear.

  Lorraine Downes - our Ambassador

Former Miss Universe, Lorraine Downes joins our wonderful team of ambassadors and will shortly front a campaign to help raise breast awareness amongst women aged 70 and over.  Lorraine's mum, Glad was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, and has thankfully made a good recovery. So Lorraine decided to take a stand.

Harvard study: Start mammograms under 50

A Harvard study supports the NZBCF’s view on mammograms. Start them at age 40 to significantly reduce your risk of dying from breast cancer. The research showed most deaths from breast cancer occur in younger women who don’t have regular mammograms.
