Questions to Ask

Listed below are some questions to ask your health professional before your tests 

•    Which tests do I need to have?
•    What will the test show?
•    Are there any risks associated with the test?
•    Is it going to hurt?
•    How long will it take?
•    How will I feel after the test?
•    Will there be a scar after my biopsy?
•    Can I continue to exercise after this biopsy?
•    Can I drive after the biopsy?
•    Can I shower afterwards?
•    Do I need another appointment?
•    Can I bring someone with me to my next appointment?
•    When will the results be available and how do I get them?
•    What happens next?

If you've been diagnosed with breast cancer, here are some initial questions for your doctor.  These may help you to understand your test results more clearly:

•    Where is my breast cancer? Has it spread beyond the breast?
•    Can I have a copy of my pathology report and can you explain it to me?
•    Can I bring a support person in so you can explain my results to them?
•    Is my breast cancer hormone receptor positive or HER2 positive? What does this mean for me?
•    Can you write down what you have told me so that I can read it again later?
•    What are my next steps, who should I see next?
